Thank you in advance for your reply. I am looking to purchase a fixer upper and I'm not sure on what I'm getting into.

I GUESS I GOT MY ANSWER. I WAS WANTING A FIXER UPPER THAT WOULD TAKE A COUPLE YEARS. I ALWAYS WANTED A BOAT AND DON'T HAVE THE MONEY ALL RIGHT NOW. I FIGURED A GREAT HOBBY WITH A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. I APPRECIATE THE INSIGHT.

It is a 84 Century 3000 sport with these problems or needs:

260hp Mercurycruiser

Give it a look, I trust you won't bid and if so, it wasnt for me

*Broken Steering Cable
*Two Exhuast manifold cracks
*Two blown soft plugs
*Exhaust bellows are split open
*Also the big one, cracked block due to not being winterized properly
*It's for sale for $300.00 and exterior and interior great shape

I have a good friend who is a master mechanic but I want to make this bid for it.

All I have is pictures to go off of.

Any ideas for some advice.

Thanks so much

Chad

I wouldn't pay a penny for a boat with that level of "KNOWN" problems unless you know that the floor, stringers, transom and foam are dry and free from rot. I doubt that any boat with this level of neglect will meet those requirements.

Just my opinion however.

Just send me the $300 and forget the whole idea of buying that collection of junk. I'll blow the cash on liquor and women, and you will be losing less than if you bought that hulk.
It's a 25 year old collection of junk, most likely all piled in a rotten hull.

I can't think of a worse scenario for boat purchasing.

If it had some brand new parts like an outdrive or something it would be worth towing away for free.... maybe...

You would be FAR FAR better off saving your money and buying something you can water test.

Getting that Century to the lake for under $5000 would be a chore and a half even if the floor, stringers and hull are mint....

Ayuh,....

And with only another 5 or 6 Thousand Dollars you just Might be able to go Boating.....

I wouldn't pay $300. for that unless it was sitting on a tandem trailer in good shape, with brand New tires on it....

I agree.....a 25 year old boat in that condition is more than likely rotting from the inside out.
If they let the motor freeze and all the other problems i know they didn't cover it or cared if it rained in it and rotted everything.

They would have to pay me to drag it away...

I saw a nice Bayliner on E-bay, had a 100 or so hours on it nice 4.3 .

And was a 19 footer i think,maybe bigger.

Wish i had the money.

Oh to the Op.

Don't buy that boat. If you do you will be sorry.

Why you want to buy something that won't make you happy.

Re: New and would like Advice

well you say you want a boat that you are willing to put in years of work on because you can't afford one. My advice to you is to ask the guys in the restoring section for advice as far as what to look for. I'm sure the guys and girls here can help get you on the water for cheap.

Wish the OP would REPLY to messages here instead of continually altering his original post....

That boat was DONATED for a reason. Find another with a solid platform to build on.
