Re: please help

Make sure you use grade 8 bolts into the flywheel...or are the holes already stripped?

Re: please help

Do you have the right bolts? I recently had to pull my flywheel off (different year and hp) and got the puller from an auto parts store. They sold me the wrong size bolts for the flywheel, and I almost ripped my threads out too. I ended up having to go somewhere else for the bolts.
I also know this is not recommended, but I had no choice, but as I tightened the puller to remove the flywheel, it wasn't budging. I had to use a rubber mallet and tap the edges to get it to pop off. I was as gentle as I could be, but otherwise, it wasn't moving.
Probably a dumb question, but you did remove the flywheel bolt on top, right?
I had to sort through my mixed bolts at home to find the right size for mine, then go to the store with it to match it up with.

Re: please help

are you using a standard crows foot? (steering wheel/damper puller)

ive seen people try using the puller upside down and bend bolts but not very often when used with the flat side up.

you will need at least grade 8 bolts or better........if you strip a hole youll have to retap the threads

Re: please help

Maybe getting the flywheel off is not the first step. Does your motor have a stop button? If so have you disconnected the switch from the system? A shorted switch or shorted wiring will prevent the magic of the spark.

Re: please help

As suggested check the kill switch circuit then::
Grade 8 bolts, leave flywheel nut on loose to protect the threads tighten the puller bolt good and tight hold up on the flywheel and wack puller bolt with a hammer.re tighten and wack again repeat as necessary.

Re: please help

Steelspike is correct. Try putting the puller under tension then smack the puller center bolt on the top with a hammer, Works most often.

Re: please help

1/4"-20 tpi, Grade 8 bolts with a harmonic balancer puller does the trick. You can carefully use a hammer or mallet to tap the flywheel once the puller is tightened down. Don't get carried away with the hammer. If you crack the flywheel, you might not find out until much later when it flies apart at 3500 RPM.

Re: please help

Keep cranking on the center bolt. It'll pop and scare the ^&%$#^&%$# out of you when it does!

Re: please help

i picked up some grade 8 bolts at home depot. i went with an allen head so i dont get them mixed up with the regular bolts. as for the popping it with a hammer, i recomend a rubber mallet or a deadblow hammer, brass if you dont have any mallets. also try dribbling a lil penetrating oil down the shaft and let it soak for a day to help loosen things up and grease the way.
