Engine had a lean sneeze. removed carbs rebuilt. reinstalled starts right up idles still sneezes and spits fuel from top orifice on top carb. can someone please help
Have only seen sneezing address once on another site which dont mean that it is not a common problem, I just dont surf that much. Had to do with check valves and the accumulation of fuel. Believe there is one per cyl. or one at the bottom of the intake manifold. Accumulation of fuel?
Had put the question concerning them here on IBOAT but could not get a response other than, yes they are there. Might be the problem. Wait for an answer from someone more knowegable. regards FRED
i have an older johnson 110 hp. sneezes at idle, cold, once warmed up
purrs like a kitten, dont quite know about your gas leak though, ill research!!!! hopefully someone will get back to you
Did you sync and link the carbs so your carbs open evenly and the timing comes in when its supposed to.There are replies on the forum for correct procedure.Or,by chance is your primer sending fuel due to valve in partial on position or broke. There could also be a problem with the reed valves, fuel shooting out carb is often a sign.
carbs totally rebuilt. orifice brand new. inspected reeds no visible sign of wear or damage. one thing that happened when i revd up the motor it didnt return to normal idle for at least 20 secs or so. this spitting is a clearly visible stream of fuel got me stumpd thank you for the replys
I think you have answered your own question. Take the top carb back apart and run through each jet and passage with at soft wire. I prefer copper to steel as it will not damage the metal of the carb. Something is in the idle circuit of the top carb I believe. Either that or you did not get a good seal between the carb and manifold.
gonna take the top carb back off to make double sure that it is clean and to make sure the float is to spec. Will return with more info shortly thank u for ur replys.
ok back with more info took carb back off went thru it with single strand wire found no obstructions and made sure float was to spec.. 1 thing i did notice is that one of the seats for the reed pedals seems to have a gap between it and the pedal its about a 1/16 of an inch could this one seat be the cause of this or does it need to be a much larger gap. thanxs again guys
if it cant close the pressure can then get past and blow incoming fuel, there needs to be a suction that opens and sucks the fuel, might b a good idea to pull reed plate 4 inspection
update on the sneeze. I took the the reed plate out for inspection and clearly 1 of the 8 pedals is open. going to swap it out. I will be back with info.
back with more info. swapped out bad leaf plate. ran engine. still sneezes but much less than before. the fuel that once was a pretty contast spray coming from the intermediet orifice is now just a very light mist. And idles a little to high. so i cover the orifice jet a little with a toothpic and she purrs like a kitten no sneeze no spit. should i go to a smaller jet and if so whats the next down size? the jet is a 36d rite now . thank u for the input.
