I just bought a used boat that came with a Lowrance X22A Depth Finder. The screen seems to be fogged up and chipped in the middle, probably from being out in the sun or at least out in the weather. Is there anything that can be done to clear this up? And is this a good brand and or model?

In my opinion Lowrance is the best brand for inland waters. When new they are filled with nitrogen and sealed. If it cracked then it can get moist air inside and fog up. You can buy nitrogen but first must seal it up perfect.

I have a high-end Eagle sonar (15 years old,,, and cost $600 back then) that has fogged up a few times. This unit has a breather on the back side and in rainy conditions, moisture can get inside and fog up the unit.

I've cleared up the problem by leaving the head unit on the truck dash for a week or 2. The hot days drive moist air out and the cool nights draw dry air back in, but I live in the desert with low humidity,,, probably wouldn't work in Duluth, MN during the dead of winter.

Well, as one of those 50 viewers who doesn't have or have owned your model or a very similiar one, felt it wasn't neccessary to post: "Sorry, can't help you". ;)

suggest you contact the manufacturer or a service center. they are the one to have the correct answer.

atleast people looked at it. and did not have the answer. you have to be patient.

leave the head unit on the truck dash for a week or 2. The hot days drive moist air out and the cool nights draw dry air back in

If there was a path for moisture to get in then there is a path for moisture to get out again.

If it's too cold for the vehicle dash trick, you can put the head unit in the a slightly warmed oven (say 120-150 degrees) for 1-2 hours so it warms completely through and expels moist air, pull it out and let it sit overnight to cool down and pull in dry air, then repeat this procedure until the moisture is gone. Just remember, you're not cooking the Thanksgiving turkey, keep the oven warm, not hot... If you can't hold you hand on the metal oven rack it's too hot

If that doesn't work you're probably SOL as these units have sealed cases. I've called about this problem before and they said I was SOL and would have to send the unit in for disassembly, cleaning and reassembly,,, something to the tune of $100

That's the only answer I got :D

I have a SH plotter that fogged up. solution was to get those small sicagell packs and put them in the back of the unit, it absorbs the moisture
