I have a 14ft Aluminum boat with a wooden transom for motor. How do I repair or rebuild this? And what do I look for on the boat that would indicate leakage probs?

Hi Stormie,

Welcome!

The first thing we probably need are pics... Beyond that, what's the condition of the boat? What do you want to do with it? Etc.

As for leakage... Not to sound mean, but you can put the boat securely on blocks, put some water in it, and look for leaks.

Yep, block or support it and partially fill it with water...watch for leaks, mark them, drain the boat and then re-buck the rivets with two hammers and then apply a coat of Gluvit inside to eliminate the leaks. Replace the wood transom pad, and maybe the seat boards (if they are worn, rough) and Bob's your uncle...it's ready for an outboard and some fishing fun.

The one's I have done and seen are fairly simple. I'd be sure to replace with Marine grade plywood. It's more expensive but eventually the standard ply will get soft and your motor could wind up taking an unwanted bath.

Pics of your current setup are ALWAYS good when asking for advice. Just my $.02.

Good luck!! :)

Sitting that long, if it has been leaking you will see stains on the bottom.
