I gave myself a goal of going to 10 Lakes for the 08 season, and Wow was that a hard goal to make.
It was one of the most eventful years I can remember and having met so many people was truly great.
We basically go to the Lake every weekend during the boating season, for me thats when it's warm.
To put this in perspective we had to go to a different Lake every other weekend for 6 months and that always required staying in Hotels or Lodges. On top of going to our local lake on the odd weekend we did not go out of town.
We took hundreds of pictures and rarely had any mishaps other than loosing a prop.
Next year I plan on laying low and close, but will venture out to a few more areas possibly Arkansas.

Re: Ten Lakes

Welcome aboard Gdubya !
It's lots of fun to set goals and achieve them . I think "expanding your horrizons " is a genetic part of being on the water/wanting to go to sea . This summer I found out that my states two biggest (natural ) lakes are less than 15 minutes away from home...The past 2 years I've been doing circles in a 250 ac. puddel !
Your home spot will always the best place to wet the keel and getaway from it all , but the search for bigger water and new friends on them , will draw you away to other ports . :DPeter

Re: Ten Lakes

Interesting idea. I may consider trying something like this next year.

Lets see, how many lakes did I get to this season?

Gun Lake
Kalamazoo Lake
Lake Michigan
Lake Macatawa
Mullet Lake
Burt Lake
Crooked Lake
Lake Huron
Hamlin Lake

I guess I only got to 9 this season. Of course the first 4 were visited multiple times. I love living in Michigan.

It'll be interesting to see what others were able to do for the 08 season.

I guess the difficulty for me was all the extra planning for accomodations since we stayed the weekend and not day tripping, we have about 20 or so local lake such as you.
We did go to the lake 33 times this year and we will still go another 2 or 3 times. That many weekend stay overs is just a bit too much work.

Gdubya,

Where are you located? It sounds like boating is a big part of your free time. It is always interesting to hear about others adventures in boating.

Of the lakes I listed the Mullet, Burt, Crooked and Huron visits were during a one week camping/boating vacation.
A few pictures:

You're right it takes a lot of work to plan a trip.

What are some the lakes you were able to go to?

Rotory,
I'm in Plano Texas, yes thats a City name, We are a burb of Dallas, Tx.
Those are great pictures, I am at work and don't have any but there are some on my website in my sig line.
The lake I did go to are fair size, I think the smallest being around 25000 acres.
1. Texoma, Tx/Ok
2. Lewisville, Tx
3. Lavon, Tx
4. Hefler, Ok (under 25k)
5. Granbury, Tx
6. Ray Roberts, Tx
7. Ray Hubbard, Tx
8. Eagle Mountain, Tx
9. Grapevine, Tx (under 25k)
10. Broken Bow, Ok

Lewisville rated deadliest lake in Texas and Lavon are within ten miles of my house so those are my home lakes.

Re: Ten Lakes

Gdubya,

I just looked a little bit at Google Maps. I found most of the lakes you listed. They all look pretty nice.

It is interesting to me that there are so many large lakes in North Texas. I assume most of them are essentially man made from the building of dams or otherwise.

Rotory,
Yes they are man made, as big as Texas is we only have one natural Lake in the Whole state. That could be the reason Texas is so sparce, we are only 5% developed, meaning the rest is country.
