1979 9.8 carb question

I'm currently rebuilding the carb for my 1979 Merc 9.8. There is a black rubber "O" ring about a 1/4" in diameter in the parts container. I don't remember seeing one come out of the carb. Anyone have any ideas where it may go? Can't find anything about it in my shop manual. Maybe it came from somewhere else. Hopefully someone will know.

The "O" ring was in my parts container from disassembling the carb. Still waiting for my rebuild kit to come in. I think it came from somewhere else.

If my memory serves there is a seal ring that fits down in the main tube cavity that seals the end of the main tube.

Thanks. I think you're right I was thinking that may have been where it came from. The only problem was that it didn't show it on the diagrams of my carb.

Re: 1979 9.8 carb question

Are the parts diagrams 100% accurate on parts that are suppose to be there? The reason I'm asking is that after examining my carb further. Other then the extra rubber "o" ring, there are also a couple extra brass washers there. This leads me to believe that the person who previously owned this motor did a rebuild and made sure that he used up all the parts that came with the kit. Like someone previously posted, alot of the kits are generic and come with unused parts.

The only brass washer that I can remember was under the fuel intake needle valve seat. If you have not removed the seat and replaced it then there is no need for the washer.
