Hi

Can anyone tell me the correct head torque settings for the above motor please?

One cylinder is way down on compression and the unit will hardley run. Is a ring replacement likely to fix my problem and can I, a keen novice carry out the work myself.
Thanks

The cylinder head gasket may be blown, so you should take the cylinder head off and check it. The torque setting is 18-20 Ft. Lbs. (24-27 N-m).

...and be sure to torque them in the proper sequence, a clockwise circular pattern like the following starting in the middle....

9.............10
5.............6
1.............2
4.............3
8.............7

Re: head torque settings for johnson 60 1982

Hi
While awaiting the arrival of new gaskets I have been carefuly cleaning the head faces and have noticed a fair amount of compound on the faces and bolt threads. Do i need to use a compound during reasssembly?
Thanks

Wait for the gaskets. Many have a self-sealing finish that will not require a sealer. The important thing will be to have the mating surfaces very clean.
