My fishfinder works, but when I turn my accessory switch on, it cuts off. They are wired to the same battery, but have been wired this way for a long time with no problems. Help, please!!
You need to identify what your accessory switch is powering, because that is loading up the circuit and causing the battery to drop below the voltage necessary to operate the fishfinder. Good luck!
I don't even have anything else running when I turn it on. The acc. switch is when I turn the key on getting ready to start the motor. Even after it's cranked, the finder still won't turn on, until I turn the key off again. Short, maybe? They are hooked to the same circuit board under the dash. Thanks!
I would now look for corrosion or loose connections on that fishfinder circuit. In a marine environment, things have a way of slowly or suddenly not working due to connections. Look under terminals or where wires are crimped and see if they are solid and not greenish-black from corrosion.
I recently changed out a gps unit and just by moving the old cable around it developed an intermittent open circuit. With the old unit and the wiring undisturbed it worked fine. I ran a new and heavier wire and solved the problem.
fish finders have a protective circuit, that they will not work if not receiving, proper voltage. mine would shut off, when i started, because the starter drew the power away from the fishfinder.
The weird thing is, I don't even try to start the motor, just turn the switch to acc., and the finder shuts off. Guess I need to check my battery voltage, maybe it's no good.
