Horrendous service at Friday's !

So what were supposed to accept terrible, horrendous service as a day to day thing nowadays.

Go out to dinner with the family, at the local Friday's, and as usual they mess up 2 orders.

Isn't any one awake at the wheel at these companies, don't they see profits falling and patrons flocking to competitors establishments.

Oh they tell themselves it's the economy, people are eating out less.

All the places where i live are packed with waiting lines, except Friday's.

This one location used to be packed, and everyone i talked to said they go to the other one up the road a piece 7 miles away.

The lousy one is what, 1 1/2 mile away from my house.

Send the bosses a email at headquarters, think they even acknowledge the email nope.

Bigger companies than them have went belly up, to many bosses not seeing it.

Won't be seeing me in there again, and on a sat. night 2 tables with people in there, 2 tables.

Manager is maybe the dumbest guy in there.

I think they gave a stupid test and he passed, thats why he got the job.

Only one dumber is the guy who hired him.

EVERYBODY has a bad day.

I've found it's all in how you treat them..........

Yes, you want service but you get what you portray. If you are a PIA, you get treated as such. Not right, but reality.

Mrs. DJ and I eat out a lot these days (empty nesters). We are notorious HEAVY tippers. We treat host people with respect and kindness and ALWAYS get the same in return.

A few kind words will get you the BEST table/service, in the house, every time.

Let me give a few tips:


1. Take YOUR hat off!

2. Don't be beligerent, especially if you have a large party.

3. Call ahead if you do have a large party. Even if only a few minutes will make a big difference.

4. Understand what they are going through. Pay attention (most people don't) when giving your order.

That's true. I worked in an industry that I dealt with millionaires and then fairly poor folk back to back. I worked at an FBO, or fixed base operation, where private jets and tiny single engine Cessnas sat side-by-side on the ramp.

They may look dead for business, but they might be having a really bad shift. You can't see what's going on behind the scenes. I worked the night shift alone so it didn't take much to get me slammed and backed up. I might have been slammed for 4 hours straight, finally got caught up, took a ****, and then YOU show up. I may not be all chipper and happy because I'm still trying to catch my breath from 5 minutes ago but you didn't see that, all you see is a single guy, alone, not doing anything but being an unfriendly face at 2 am. So correspondingly, I wouldn't get a tip from you. But it wasn't my fault, really. Had I sat on my *** and not done anything I would have been a chipper friendly face and gotten a big fat tip. But I wouldn't have been doing my job up to that point.

Yes, they could be just incompetent people. But there is always the chance that you catch them on a bad night. Until you work in an industry where the pay is low and the work is high (waiters make about 2.50 an hour plus tips) you can't appreciate what good customer service really is, or how hard it is to provide sometimes, despite your best efforts.

The advice above is right, treat people like you want to be treated. You walk in there like you're God you will be treated like crap, I promise. Walk in there with a smile, happy face good demeanor and crack a joke or two and things should go well. You can even ask if things are busy or if they're having a bad shift and listen to the answer. It will tell you exactly what you need to say to sympathize with them or hold a brief conversation about something other than the hum-ho business that you're there for. Get sympathy, get good customer service. Simple as that.

Worked as a waiter, bus boy, car hop.

Worked on a golf course during the day and parked cars at night in every hotel in the Catskills.

I shoveled chicken manure, cow manure, and worked in the game farm upstate N.Y.

I kissed many a behind for a quarter.

Believe me no one understands better than i.

And i still left a 18 percent tip even though we got terrible service.

My kids always say thank you and please.

You don't know me, or my family.

Don't throw stones one might boomarang around hit yourself in the head with it.

Read the post 2 stikin tables in the joint had people. Took a 1 1/2 to serve a hamburger, one cold sandwich and my wifes cold chicken melt, and my fajitas.

Mine was the only hot thing came out.

But thanks for the tips, i'll keep them under my hat.

Back before our state raised the minimum wage, Fridays said they would close if it happened........It happened,,,,,,,,,,they closed. Funny thing is, how come all the rest of the umpteen million restaurants in the area are doing well?

That I would NOT have done. My standerd tip for good service is 20%. If the service is slow it drops to 15%. If it's down right sheety, screwed up order, half cold, items missing or to long a time for drink refills the tip drops accordingly. I have actually asked for the check before the food arrived, paid for the drinks and left the restaurant on more than one occasion. Conversely a great server or bartender will get as much 25%.

Y'all are more generous than I.

For great service - 20%, average service - 15%, poor service - round up to the nearest dollar.

Many years ago, we and another couple went to a Morton's in Minneapolis. We first ensured that we could get separate checks. We have a drink or two each and the other couple has iced tea and he has a glass of milk with dinner. The waiter made a quick joke regarding the milk, the service was average, and he put both bills on a single check. We asked about two checks and he said no way. Okay then. The bill was $198 and each couple left a $100 bill and left.

I have no regrets.

Applebee's always good, food never messed up a order, why?

Tuesday's have a salad bar and even in the local mall it's great.

Don't like the Out back at all.

Chili's is great, and has chicken fried steak, my favorite. And always great service.

When i go down south i can eat it every night.

I would drive all day to go to Rocket Texas for theirs. Old country, glass jars for the ice'd tea.

And the BBQ places in the middle of fields with just a metal roof, and pit in the ground don't get no better. Just bare wood tables with bench's.

They treat you like you were family.

Oh well.

I must admit i have used that method for tipping.....

A waitress with a pretty smile and nice attitude is a plus too...

I have been eating out way to much.They opened a new Greek pizza shop down the road and the little brunette Greek waitress who speaks broken English always gets a good tip....she is really nice and could be a pin up model....She likes to flirt too....

It's the "warm body hiring process" is one of the reason's and when you consider what you spend..... you are better off going to a "real" restuarant and not a chain store.

I wish I could be able to explain that it must have been the "back of the house" or the "front of the house" to blame but it is just a chain store restuarant.

Now if you and the Mrs just wanted to go out be loud and sloppy with cheap drinks....... Friday's may be just the spot.

Im one of the good customers. Im polite, dont ask much and always drink a few beers.

what bothers me is lack of attention. the food can suck, my beer can be warm and flat, but if the waiter or waitress is "there" for me Im a happy and well tipping customer. I cant stand it when you sit there with an empty beer glass with no waitress in sight.

I got to the same neighborhood dive 99% of the time. Its on the other side of town but the waitresses are 100% on their game and the food is alright. I tip very well and am treated very well.

I don't understand why people go to these chain restaurants. Ok I can understand going to one that is in the middle of no where like that the Chili's on Hwy 59 half way between Houston and Victoria but only because it is in the middle of no where.

It really blows my mind when we go out to eat in TX or New Orleans or where-ever and somebody wants to go get something they can get anywhere and it is going to be the same! The microwave wattage may change but the food still comes from the same processor.

You got a serious problem LT,............ I sure am glad I'm normal.​
