Now that i'm a boat collector, i found someone who wants a 150cc moped i've had sitting around since summer, in trade for his glasspar. Moped has few small issues, as im sure the boat does, but becaues i import them, i think my moped is worth trading.

What do you think of this...

Any guess's of its worth ?

Here are some of his email reply's.

"The boat is in great shape. Keep in mind that this boat is a 1959 and is

As

"The kicker is on my other boat. It is just a little Suzuki 8 HP. Nothing
special, but good for trolling for fish."

I'm wondering is it common to change things like the flywheel at a motor thats under 20 years old... and the "carbs" LOL.

It's a force run for the hills and hide your moped from this guy! as far as changing major parts as routine maintenance again it's a force run fast and hide your wallet.:D

I used to have one I sold it about 10 years ago and I still feel bad for the guy I sold it to. But I had to get rid of it, didn't I?

Dude, you are just a Craigslist wheeler and dealer aren't you? My nephew does that and he's always coming up with these killer deals. If that boat and motor is what he says it is and you can set on it for awhile it looks like an easy money maker!

I have a friend of a friend who imports scooters. You made out.
But, I like old boats.:)
Not fond of Force, but if it runs well - that's all that matters.

force was a decent beginner motor, that got passed around to several different manufacturers. they got their worst rep when Brunswick bought them. and started putting them on bayliners, selling the beginner package, to non educated owners, who new nothing about maintaining them as well as the boats. they are simple motors, no bells and whistles. parts are hard to find, sometimes. usually are mercury dealers and suppliers. some parts are chrysler, and they own the motor first.

While most of the comments have been about the Force motor, I am more interested in the boat. It appears to be a Glasspar Avalon which is a great, old boat. Simple, well-built and yours even has the windshield! Our family had a 1960 model for many years. My Dad used it for fishing with a 35HP Johnson plus a 3HP kicker for trolling. After he died, I installed a Mercury Mark 75 to drag our three kids around on skiis. It will perform well with a large range of motors in case the Force does not work out. Good luck!

Nice old boat.I would trade a moped for it.
The trailer i would convert to bunks so it does not leave those black streaks in the hull from the old rollers..

Re: Boat for Moped trade

As usual, all good advise, i' think when this 8 in of snow clears, i'm going to meet up with him and trade... i really don't have the time to fix this moped anyway, and he said hes good with fixing things, so why not.

Question:

How do you tow skiers' or tubes behind boats like this glasspar ? I don't see a place to put a pole up, where do you put the rope ?

"150cc Moped".. .??? That's an awfully big engine for a moped. 50cc is more typical. My 150cc bike was a racer, not a moped.

The boat might be a decent deal at around $500-$600, given the season and the state of the economy, for someone who isn't suffering Forcephobia.

I am suspicious of the moped description so I have no idea whether it would be a good trade.

I know there are tons of and scooters with 150cc motors. They are bigger than the Vespa variety........but they are scooters and not mopeds.

Re: Boat for Moped trade

anymore, 150cc mopeds are all too common, i even sell 300cc 400cc mopeds (built for 2 fat people). This last summer i sold alot more 150's then i ever would have thought, they are wicked fun.

The guy who is trading me told me he turned down an offer of 1000 cash, he was asking 1800, but i laughed at the price... my 150cc mopeds sell for around 1k, but as you can imagine, cost an importing like me, much less.

you dont need the vertical height for skiing or tubing......so the rope is attaches tow the tow hooks on the transom........uasually there is another rope that goes from hook to hook with a pully on it that the main tow rope is attached to.....that will give you an easy side to side motion on the main rope and will allow engine clearance.....

and for 5-600 that is a sweet boat in great shape.

For the tow rope they make a dual harness to attach to both the rear eyes,it has a float also to keep the rope out from the prop.
I think i paid around 25 bucks for mine.

Re: Boat for Moped trade

By definition a moped is a bicycle with an engine assist for the pedals. MOtor-PEDal cycle.

You must be selling scooters or motorcycles.

To avoid further confusion, a scooter has a floorboard for the operator's feet, a motorcycle is straddled by the operator.

Your bike, or whatever it is, is worth a lot more than that boat in this economy and season. Ask the boat and a few Cs for the bike.
