Just had the most odd thing happen today in my office. With the economy being tight this year and business still recovering from last year, my wife and I decided to give out a bonus to the girls who work for us. We could not really afford it, but we hired all new employees this year and without them we would be in much worse shape than we are (they probably saved the business after having some terrible employees). So we sucked it up, took some out of our personal savings, and handed out what was equivilent to an extra weeks check to each of them. We are very open about finances in the office and the girls all know that the office is going through the tough times and are waiting for the good times. So at lunch each of them came into my office and handed me back the checks.....told me merry christmas, and said we can wait until the office is turning a profit. My jaw hit the floor and I am still at a loss.

Hay i got a 3rd horse buffer and some chisels IL come clean some teeth at your office
In reality if thay did that for you,your a lucky person to have them as employees. Good for you

While working through college I managed a cabinet shop and was about to graduate. The owner and I had a good relation ship and he was discussing a partnership with me, vice president, or whatever, 2nd in command at a cabinet/wood shop... Thinking over my prospects as to whether I should use my degree or stick with the cabinet shop and make something of it I went to the Christmas party.

Bonus that year.... 1 sweater which all the guys received, didn't matter if you had worked there for a few years or 1 month, you received a sweater. (did I mention I hate sweaters?)

Few months later I graduated and never looked back...

Well SS MAYFLOAT I remember a few months ago you'd mentioned looking for a career change. Now, we know why. Hang on till the economy pics back up and I'm sure something more to your liking will come along. For now, if you debt is going down, your in a better spot than alot of folk. GL

I've been working for the company for 10 years now. They even gave me a Fuji Finepix S1000 camera that is nice. That was solely for my 10 years of service.

For the first five years of my employment, my Christmas bonus climbed each year to a nice amount of $3,000. Then it started going down each year by leaps and bounds. 6th year $1500, 7th year $1000, 8th year $500, 9th year $400, This year $85................Guess next year they will have to take some out of my check! Merry Christmas ......I can't believe I'm not PO'd about it. Just glad I have a great job ...Things could be worse...........SS

Good that you're not PO'd about it,
the ungratefull ones are the first to go.
I wouldn't look at it as solely for your 10 yrs of service,
its for Christmas and its a gesture.
Next yr they WILL take it out of paychecks by chopping or eliminating them, I had to.

I've been running businesses for over 25 yrs and the cost of gvmnt is getting insane. I was liberal when I bought my first biz, I got a reality dope slap in a hurry.
Currently i run a catering biz, Christmas work parties are way down over previous yrs. I've got 2 more parties to do today then thats it, I'd say its off by 75%.

Buckle down, its gonna be a wild ride.

Well, I've worked commercial construction, for starting 32 years. I've seen the work be plentiful, and scarce.

The Tuesday, before Thanksgiving, I got called to the office, and told, "We're out of work we've gotta lay you off. Have a nice holiday".

REALLY makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside !!!!!!!!!!!
