I actually had in my mind to go out and try to catch some trout this Christmas in my 18 foot boat. Got it all set up with a heater and closed off etc.

Coldest frigging winter in 30 years and the boat launch is solid. The lake itself looks decent but no way to launch and not going to warm up enough to open the launch up for a while.

Oh well. It was a thought.

Re: Not fishing this Christmas

Here I'm trying to stay away from the fresh water fishing forum because I'm having FISHING WITHDRAWALS, reading about fishing and tackle is giving me the jitters, then you come down to DC and mention FISHING.:D:D

Even though it's not my type of fish, I'll stick to bass, crappie, catfish, and stripers. I was supposed to take my uncle out in my boat the Monday after Thanksgiving but I haven't made it out to the lake or river yet :(.

I'm hoping that I'll get something for the boat or fishing for chistmas so I'll have an excuse to go out :D.

Yeah, I feel your pain...

I saw a cold front moving in on the news last night, then mentioned to my wife that an approaching cold front is one of the best times to go fishing. She reminded me,,, there aint no way in **** you're going on Christmas eve.

Oh well, I tried (not really, I know better than going on Christmas eve)

Some of the nicest speckled trout I've ever seen caught on Christmas day in Trinity Bay out of the wildlife refuge. Them big ones start to move in the winter. I'm talking about 24-25 inch. Merry Christmas!

lakes should have at least 12" of ice here, so the thought of putting the boat in the water will need to wait 4 more months or so.

I hear ya on the fishing withdrawl. Ice fishing is just as spendy though. Flasher, shack, heater, auger, rods, tip ups, Lures, warm clothes.....

Well. I checked the other launches and I will be able to launch downtown. As long as the weather plays nice and I can get my boat out from behind the snow, I'll go out this week.

Launching downtown takes me to the wrong side of the bridge so I'll have to do some looking for the fish.

Re: Not fishing this Christmas

Went out into Lake Salvador this afternoon. I mostly just wanted to go for a ride because my boat was out of service for awhile due to a broken swivel bracket.

I had a rod rigged with a spinner bait during the week that we lost SBN - haven't re-rigged it since, so I took it with me. There were a bunch of guys fishing a hot spot along one area of the lake, but I headed for a canal with a bunch of stumps and hurricane felled trees along the edges. I didn't catch a thing, but that's OK because it was nice day and it was great just throwing that bait along the edges, trying to put it just where I wanted.

I also saw what was probably a red shouldered hawk, sitting on a tree limb watching me with great interest. I love these sightings because most of the time, you don't even know they are there - you just look up and there's this magnificent bird staring at you. One day I will learn to take a camera every singlt time I go out!

Re: Not fishing this Christmas

Day after Christmas, went fishing with my brother in law and caught my first "real" Saltwater fish worth mentioning........A 26" Red caught in the intercoastal around Flagler , Fl. I was very impressed with the fight this fish fought for its size.......The fight rivaled any larger by far northern pike I have caught in the past.......Awesome fish and I guiess awesome tasting......I had to go to work the next day that they( Family cooked up fish) Also cuaght some nice Sheapshead and black drum......All in all a great fishing day and I always have a blast with my Bro in law. One thing it did for me was made me want to be in (own)a boat even more then before.......

Re: Not fishing this Christmas

Well had some money for a boat.....figured awesome Christmas present for myself.......Had to spend the money.....no boat for Mikey..........By the way, have you ever heard " The shoe makers children go shoeless"? My father owns a boat dealership.......And me with no boat. Truth is its been a really tough year for us and him and money is extremely tight. Few people can get a loan so not buying new boats and instead keeping there old ones. But you never know what can happen.
