What type of Bayliner is this?

I couldn't find any identifying name or numbers anywhere - where should I look?

Thanks for any help. :)

Re: help with Bayliner model identification

It looks to me like a Bayliner Nisqually from the late 70's or early 80's. I think he molds for that boat came from Fiberform, which went out of business in....maybe 1981?
If it's newer than 1972(?) there should be a HID # on the outside of the stern, on the starboard side just under the rubrail.

Seeing that the boat was registered before, by the registration numbers on the hull, check with the wildlife division in the state where it was registered. The information should be available there.

number should be on the upper right of the outside of the transom, looking from the back, or just around the corner.

That isn't far from the truth. It was abandoned on the property that I just bought.

I am hoping I can fix it up - I have never owned a boat, so I don't know what I'm in for. :p

Thanks to all for the assistance.

Seriously, welcome aboard and you have come to the right place. Both of my newer boats didn't need much, but what they needed was always expalined to me very well here on the forum. Use the search function and you will find a huge archive of info on how to rebuild land yachts....er, Bayliner Beauties to suit your every need.
Good luck! :)

Re: help with Bayliner model identification

I'm always amazed at all the different hardtop models that Bayliner produced. Now I think all they have in a hard top is in the Discovery series. So if you do get it fixed up, it will be rather unique.

It looks like it has an outboard bracket attached to the transom. I would guess that boat came with an i/o (v8 inboard, with drive unit sticking out the back). Some people switch over to outboard(s) when the i/o's go. Some more pics of the transom will help determine that.

Before you spend a lot of time and money on it, you need to determine the condition of the boat so you can decide how much work and money it will take and even if you want to do it.

Check the floors for soft or rotten areas. If its hard, drill holes with a 2" hole saw and inspect underneath. Look in the bilge and inspect with a screw driver or ice pick for soft and rotten wood. Same with the inside of the transom. Chances are the floor, stringers and transom are rotten from sitting uncovered.

Go to shareaproject.com and look at some of the boat rebuild projects there. Especially check out "project long haul" which is a full floor and stringer job on a Bayliner Capri. Gives you an idea of what is involved.

Good luck. Post some more pics, especially inside and cabin.

I need to google "transom" because I'm not sure what that is. Here are a few more pictures. I think I have my hands full here.

Re: help with Bayliner model identification

I searched on Bayliner Nisqually and was surprised to find a few in nice shape selling for $10-13,000!!! Neat boat. Makes a nice weekender. Unusual to find a Flybridge on boats that size. I tried to find some photos of the cabin, but couldn't find any.

If you are interested in boating, You might want to start with a smaller boat that is ready to go and see if boating is something you fall in love with, (or get addicted to).

Re: help with Bayliner model identification

Scratch what I wrote earlier about the "outboard bracket". I now see from the pictures you posted the entire outdrive is in place. It looks like a swim platform was added that has a place on the left to mount a small outboard (aka Kicker) for trolling and/or emergency backup.

Like was mentioned earlier, it will probably need a lot of work. But that sure is a nice boat. It surprised me to see a flybrige (roof top controls) and full cabin on that size boat. So it has two sets of controls to operate the boat from! Of course, that makes everything more expensive related to controls! LOL!

How much "restoration" work can you tell was done before it was abandoned?

Good luck with what ever decision you make.

Mark.

Re: help with Bayliner model identification

I owned one. It's a Bayliner Victoria command bridge.
It was designed to be a lightweight towable 28" boat (actually 27.9').
Mine had sliding glass doors in the back.
Transom rotted (fixed) motor mount pads rotted (fixed) engine was replaced, and I replaced the transom shield and outdrive to make it a DuoProp drive with trim. Did 35 after that, at WOT.
Very top heavy and scary in waves. I boated in Alaska on salt water with all the good waves involved. Never lost it, but it sure worried me. If it's going to be a lake boat with little bad weather action, it will be great. has lots of interior space.
But you have a LOT of work to do to make it useable.

PS: The wife like the boat, because of all the room. I hated the thing.
