Once you verify that the choke plates are synchronized, loosen and move the solenoid in small increments until the choke plates close 100% and stay closed while the engine is cranked.

What ezeke says. However, there is a possibility that after 30 years in the world, somebody may have put a solenoid from an earlier year on it. 1978 should have one wire, plus ground. Early models had two wires plus ground. The two-wire one will work, but both must be connected to the wire from the choke switch.

you can flip the choke on by hand does this part have something to do with the elec choke or is it a man override i read this may have a auto setting it has to be set on. when you turn and push in the switch to advocate the solenoid does this automaticly close the choke plates or is it supposed to flip the part on the side of the motor forward

you have a slide knob on the lower front of the motor. all the way in, the choke is deactivated, one notch out, the electric choke solenoid, should be able to move the linkage, all the way out, is manual choke.

Your manual choke lever is on the port side of the top carburetor.

With the lever forward the choke is on and both choke plates should be fully closed.

The normal operating position of the manual choke lever is to the rear, or off, allowing the choke solenoid to control the choke.
