Has anyone here ever heard of Studebaker boat? I have a lead on a Studebaker 14' aluminum fishing boat and would sure appreciate some feedback regarding quality, age, etc. I conducted a search of iboats but only found one reference and no info. I may go look at it this Saturday. Thanks.

Made in Kansas back in the 60s (??) by the Studebakers (no relation to the car). Seems like I read they were one of the first all welded aluminum boats.

This has been mentioned on the Studebaker Drivers Club forum also. bhiles answer is about the most info I can remember reading about studebaker boats! I've done some internet searches before, and never found anything about them.
If you buy it,I'd like to know a little about it,maybe pass on a few pics to the SDC.

Re: Studebaker boat?

Thanks for the replies. After calling the owner and visiting with him a bit, I've decided to pass on it. It comes with a trailer, a small trolling motor, and a 7.5 Mercury for $500, so the price may be okay. But the boat does leak a little, the trailer looks iffy and he has been starting the motor up w/o putting it in a water barrel or putting muffs on it. Depending on how long he's run the motor, it might be okay but I don't want to take the chance at this point.

It would at least need a new impeller and maybe a rebuild if he ran it very long. Not very bright on his part.
