Hi, I am the lucky new owner of a 1989 Bayliner 2302 Trophy with twin 125 HP Force outboards. HIN BL5A98FTK889. I can not find a ratings plate anywhere? Does anybody know what the maximum HP rating for my hull is?

I may want to repower with a single larger motor. Obviously I should be able to go up to 250 HP- but what about 275 or 300 HP?

Also, has anyone repowered the same hull with a smaller single motor such as a 200 or 225 HP? And if so, how does your hull perform?

The USCG does not require rating plates on vessels that are 20 feet or longer.
I would think that a single 250 would do very well back there. Pushing the envelope for the extra weight for 25 or so added horsepower just doesn't make a lot of sense. The additional thought would also be the cutout design of your particular model. Before you do anything check the depth and see if there is sufficient room to do what you want to do. Some of the bigger singles have a much larger footprint ( mounting area ) then your smaller twins.
Call me stupid but I just like the redundancy of two motors - especially offshore.
