Where to start?

I've owned three boats since moving to the Gulf Coast eight years ago, done most minor maintenance on them. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, but have never torn down an engine or outdrive. Can anyone tell me of a text or website that could get me started on engine/outdrive mechanics? I have the time and tools/garage available. I don't want to buy another boat unless I am relatively comfortable working on it.

Don,

Yes, I read the post (nice title, catches the eye immediately). I don't have a boat, therefore I don't have specs to give. Since I now can start threads, where would this question go?

If you don't know What you want to Work On,....

How are We supposed to point out a Shop Manual or anything else,..??..??

You can open Any of the Merc. manuals in the Adults Only thread,+ Read Away...
Atleast you'd know what Merc.s look like,+ How they ome apart...

So doc here we are.

I received a PM from the OP asking me the questions he asked here.

I asked him to post in the forum, asking for help.

Maybe someone near where he lives may offer to mentor him.

He would make a great gofer.

And at the same time learn hands on so to speak.

But i still don't where exactly he lives.

So people i put it to you, does anyone want to pass on what he has learned to a eager person looking to learn.

Try to find a local technical college.
Most have an auto repair dept.
Sign Up for engine repair classes.
Some have all the machines needed to overhaul an engine,
saving in the area of $1500 of machine shop bill if you do the work.
