Searial number queries

This may seem like a silly question to some, but, would serial numbers on Australian Mercury motors be the same series as the USA motors???

Also, apart from the small silver sticker on the transommount on the motor, is there another place to find the motor serial number? My boat was stored with the motor in the weather and this little plate has lost all markings.

Cheers Paul

Paul, a pic might help. The color (and shape) of the band and the shape of the cowling is unique for each model. Also, sometimes the freeze plugs (welsh plugs, core plugs, casting plugs)) have the serial stamped on them.

Re: Searial number queries

I will try and send some photos. I know the serial number is usually next to the transom mount on a silver plate but the plate has faded to nothing.

I hope these photos help (AND COME OUT).

Re: Searial number queries

Sorry to be a pest but can anyone tell me if this is the correct serial number for my motor?????

(C) 1550905. The motor is above and i think it is meant to be a 1994 motor??

Thanks, Paul

Re: Searial number queries

The series of serial numbers that begin with 'C' have six numbers, not seven.

In 1994, the serial numbers begin with 0D or 0G, sometimes the '0' is dropped so you would only see D or G in the lists.

I think the brownband finished in 1992 so yours is probably post 1992.
