I have a Lowrance x22a with a cracked and foggy display. When I say foggy, I don?t mean in the humidity sense but the plastic has the worn look. Anyway, I am looking at one online for sale that is not working but the plastic for the display is in great shape. Is it easy to remove the front of the unit? I know it is supposedly air tight meaning that it probably a pain to get into. Anyone have any experience with this?????

Lowrance units are not repairable.

I had an older Lowrance X97 that stopped working, so I called Lowrance for repair, but that model had been discontinued. You could try Lowrance and they might be able to help you.
I ended up taking my X97 apart just for kicks, and it was not difficult as long as you are not disconnecting the circuit board from the display.

I have an Eagle (cheap Lowrance) that has the same case as yours. I called their tech line as I hated the loud beeping noise it made when changing depth, wanted to cut the wire or add a resistor. Tech support said it was a totally sealed unit and couldn't be taken apart... So I filled the small hole for the speaker with silicone :D problem solved.

Have you tried polishing the bezel? I've done it on a few clear plastic items and it turned out well. They make plastic specific polishes, but I used a few different compounds I had in the garage and it came out well. If you do polish the bezel the silk screened writing will most likely be gone. You could try taping off the areas you don't want polished and give it a shot.

If the unit is like mine the front is fused to the back and only way to get apart is to break it apart. It is also filled with dry nightogen to keep it from fogging up on the inside.
