Has anyone ever used this stuff for boat repairs? Above and below the waterline? Could this be a substitute for marine tex, it definitely cheaper.

Yes it will work since the PC 11 was designed for marine use. What are you trying to fix?

Re: PC-11 epoxy

I have used PC-11 Marine often because the local ACE Hardware store has it and I have an account there.

3M 5200 is great product for a lot of things but gave up on it for keeping my brass drain plug ferule in (some ham fisted helpful fishing buddy - or maybe even me- twists one of the two out once a year :) so I epoxied the tube in last spring and it has stayed all season.....

The marine variety is what I buy, and it is white which makes a nice patch for my hull- beaching a fiberglass hull and/or helpful guests on my boat usually insure that I am reparing my prow/keel several times a year.

I like it and have had good success with it.

I am using it on the bottom of the boat to repair where the boat was beached too many times and the keel wore down to the fiberglass. I used 3 layers of mat to make the repair and now plan to fair it in with epoxy.

Discovered the hard way not to try to gel coat over it. Gel coat will not harden even over 2 year old repairs. Patched the various screw holes in the dash, gunwales, and transom of my first boat with it and any where it was gel coated over, the gel coat stayed soft no matter what I did or how I prepped beforehand. Same for Pettit Easypoxy paint over it. Never had a problem w/Marine Tex or West Marine epoxy.

The Black PC-11 cures rock hard! Don't use it if flexibility is what you need. As mentioned above, polyester and epoxy resins do not cohabitate well with each other. You can put epoxy over polyester(well cured of course), but not the other way round.

I haven't noticed any issues with it... :(

I painted my entire hull with Linen White Duplicolor lacquer spray bombs, including areas which were PC-11'd, and I touch up every repair I make. No probs...

Lacquer dries fast but it is not a "curing" finish so I am unfamiliar with this issue.
