Well after alot of reading and reading and reading some more, I painted my boat today! I sanded and sanded and sanded somemore and finally I was ready to breath some life into this old beauty . This a '69 Arrow Glass I got with a 35HP '59 Johnson Super Seahorse and a Valley tilt trailer for $40 bux . Originally I just wanted some of the instruments of this boat but for $40 bux yeah, I took it home
! The floor is solid and the hull is in perfect shape. I used Rustoleum Gloss Sail Blue in the quart can and rolled and tipped it with some high density foam rollers and used the smaller foam brushes for the tight spots. I used about 5% paint thinner to thin it just a little. Rustoleum is good at self leveling and tip out all the airbubbles it cures very even (looks sprayed ! )
I was a little sceptical and unsure what to expect but I think the results speak for them selves. This is just one coat . I will only do one more thin coat and clean up the rub rail or just tape everything up a bit and spray them white or whatever color I decide on. I was truely amazed at the results! Anyone thinking about trying rustoleum I give it a big thumbs up here! Of all my reading on marine paints and auto paints and everything I came to this one conclusion from another thread . You can get great results from a cheap 20-50 dollar paint job if you sand well , prep well, and apply well. Or you can spend alot more dough doing it done the right way , there is no middle ground, so I figured why spend more .... I am not a hoyty toyty collector ,just your average joe and this really exceeded my expectations. Can't wait to put the windshield and all the flawless chrome tack back on , she is gonna really sing then ! Best part , I did it myself!
next task is to color match the trailer.... can you believe the before and after ?
