? late 60 johnson 50 hp electric shift

hey guy I found a late 60's Johnson 50 hp . The motor is electric shift the guy is not asking much for it and it runs. Where there any big issues with these motor and are they pricy for replacment parts

model # please, they are electric shift, if it does not have the controls, it is almost worthless. controls are NLA, solenoids in lower unit are NLA. if you find the parts they are like gold.

Not only are the shifter parts expensive the gearcase is tricky to work on.

Need better information/identification. It is probably an early 1970's if 50hp, or 1968-69 if 55hp. They are Hydro-Electic shift. It is shifted by hydraulic pressure. The electric part only operates a couple of control valves. It is true that the shift switch for the control is over $400 if you can find a new one. The rest of the lower unit is not as bad as everybody makes it out to be and they work very well if you do the regular maintenance such as changing the oil and using the right oil. Run it full of water and you will have expensive problems....same as any other motor.
