*btw this is a aluminum tank..that comes into play on my question

Hey guys I'm putting my new gas tank in tomorrow..I decided to use my old pickup tube which has a brass flange fitting so this way I don't have to change my gas line setup...

anyway I noticed when I took the old pickup tube off the old tank and when I took the new pickup tube off the new tank the only sealant I could see that was on the tube where it screws into the top of the tank was ANTISEZE.

I also noticed on both pickup tubes where the brass flange fitting on the old one and the barbed fitting on the new one screws into the top/head of the pickup tube they both looked to only have ANTISEEZE there too.

my question is..is this the standard? thats all you need? I woulda thought u would use pipe doping but I'll stay with antiseez if thats all I need.

your advice? thanks!

Anti sieze is fine. You can use Teflon Tape too but be VERY careful with it. You don't want pieces of that getting in the tank.

ok I was just curious I thought it had to really be SEALED off good so I woulda figured pipe doping like titeseal.

but I'll just go back wit hthe antisieze they had on them.

thanks, and if anyone see this and disagrees please let me know since I'm installing the new tank tomorrow.

DJ is 100% right. I would use Teflon Tape too. It is the cleanest and easy to use.

I thought that teflon was not to be used for gas connections. I've used Permatex thread sealant (gas safe). This is not thread locker but sealant. You should be able to find it at any auto store.

Teflon tape just allows pipe threaded connections to be securely tightened. Yes there are tapes for gasoline and non gasoline applictaions. Regular teflon tape will disolve in gas. Good catch. ;)

The regular white tape can be used but it is imperative that you don't let any of it " hang" over the connecting end. The fuel will dissolve it and more than likely clog your system. They do make a yellow ( or pink ) don't remember - tape that is fuel friendly. Just be safe and use the old standby sealant.

ok i got the tank intalled today!

I just went with antisieze at all connecting points...hope thats fine..does that really SEAL it? i thought it was just for keeping things from rusting up etc...
