The powerheads should directly interchange. If you need a new main engine harness, it is 583036, should be still available from Bombardier for just under $ 200.

The only basic difference in the 1.6 Sea Drive and the 1.6 outboard may be how the shift hooks up. Some Sea Drives need a boss on the starboard lower pan mount. Look carefully at how your Sea Drive shift cable attaches to the block and compare it to the outboard block.

Before you go off swapping blocks I would suggest you do a thorough decarb on the one you think is low. That may free up the rings and bring the compression back up.

By the way if you ever need to work on the SeaDrive assemblies you will need a shop manual. They are quite complex. I have twin 1.6L SeaDrives that I've had for 15 years with no trouble from the SeaDrives. I'm told parts are scarce for the drives.

Agreed, a decarb would be a great first step. If you are indeed going to swap powerheads the first thing is to look at the shift hook up. You don't want to get all done and have no way to shift the motor.

this is the procedure i follow.

Decarb, take a can of seafoam put 3/4 of it in the gas tank, with only 1 gallon of premixed gas. put the rest in a spray bottle. start the engine, and let it come up to temperature. then remove plugs, and them some real good shot of seafoam into the cylinders, replace plugs, let sit 15 minutes. restart, and spray the rest of the seafoam into the carbs, so the the motor almost stalls, wait and repeat until the seafoam is gone.then take for a wide open spin. then put in new plugs, ad premixed gas to the tank, and take it for a wide open throttle spin. it is going to smoke like a house on fire, during this process.

afterwards compression.recheck

Thanks alot for the enfo I will try the decarb trick frist.I also change the prop from a 19pitch to a 17pitch it is on a 1988 Proline center consoul (17ft) Is this worth swaping power heads. The 19 smeed to take a long time to plane out or no plane at all (had to walk to front of boat)but the 17 mackes a it plane out juist fine but burns alot of gas.DO I need to run in the river after the decarb trick or can I check the comp.at the hill let me know what to do PS Smeed to loose top end of speed do to the prop swap

Have you decarb yet? We'll assume so since you want to know what to do next. What was the result? Did the compression come up?

On the prop, going to a smaller prop will in most cases result in a slower speed. That's why simply changing prop pitch to gain rpm is only a last resort. However, with a Sea Drive that's about the only way to gain rpm on a motor that's running correctly. Your's is not running correctly unless the decarb improved the compression.

As for the 90 lbs compression, that may be right. Depends on what heads and head gaskets you have. If it's 90 across the board you may not have an issue with compression.
