I just bought a donor boat that has a GM 350 that had just been bored out and magnafluxed by a machine shop. The engine is in disassembled state and I need a manual or some kind of proceedure for reassembling. I am an aircraft mechanic so the work should be straight forward. Just like to have something to look at. The motor was married to a volvo penta 280 outdrive if this helps. Thanks

What year is your new engine block? The casting numbers will help if you don't know the year. There are Merc manuals available with very good rebuild info up in the Adults Only sticky, but you need to know what year engine to look for.
I also have links to Volvo manuals for the drive, cutout templates etc. when you get there. But the Merc manuals are a lot more detailed for engine rebuilds.

Oh a fellow airplane mechanic. Knew i liked you.

Go to the top of the forum page adults only theres links there the one you want i don't know, maybe Don knows off the top of his head.

I don't have to tell you cause you know, follow the torque values, especially with the heads. I just ruined a good block cause i was in hurry, and the last step can be the one that bites you the hardest.

This engine block is the one of heated debate in my other posting. The one about ,040 overbore:D. Where do I look on the block for numbes to determine the year? Also took a couple of pics of some numbers that are on the inside of the "400 low compressionheads" if interested.

Re: Chevy 350 rebuild manual

I figured out the casting numbers. The block casting number is 10066038, which makes it a 92 , 4bearing main, 2 piece rear seal.
The "400 heads" numbers are 3973493 which means 71-72 76ccchambers.
I have another set of 350 heads that the guygave me. I am runing them through the Hotsy at work. So I will get the numbers and post them as well.
What kind of problems can I encounter by mixing and matching parts? Or should I say Frankensteining:D:D

Ayuh,...

It's a SBC,... Just by their nature, it's a Mix & Match, even if it's Factory...

So far, it sounds like it's Already a miss match of Parts...

The Block # says it's a Mexican Crate motor,...2 pc. seal is correct,.. It can be either 2 or 4 bolt mains...
Either way, not a Bad block...'course, Nothing Special either...

As for the Heads,... I'd just ditch'em,+ buy a set of Vortecs....

So the other 350 heads have casting number of 462624. which makes them 350/400 75-86 76cc with 1.72/1.5 valves(measured).

Replacing that 165 with any 350 is bound to make the boat run a lot better. Even with your present heads.
