Thats a hard find new. I dont believe they produce new anymore. Try ebay and keep checking some may pop up. Or u could possibly rework yours to fit your gears. I personally reworked mine and it has been working great for a couple of years now. Good Luck!

I will agree with woodducker..If they don`t have them at `IBOATS`,try `MAXRULES`,I have reworked more than one.I take mine to a really good `tig-welder`,let him build them up,I have a lathe.Good as new.

clutch dog is going to be a BRP part, doubt aftermarkets went to the machine them. they are expensive. you also need to replace the gears with the dog, or it will beat the new dog to death.

the parts are available, clutchdog, is reasonable price, but forward gear and bushing is over $400.00.http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=bf6ad09c53cead335fcfd8a6471c0f7f

you may be better off finding a donor lower unit, or trying, http://www.tcoutboard.com/ who will guarantee the used part, about 1/2 the price of new.

A hobby marine mechanic is another good source for used parts. I found out lot of guys like to tinker on motors here in Minnesota. I usually see them on craigslist buying/selling motors. Try to locate one in your area. S/he may have some "good" used parts on hand willing to sell you, or point you to someone who may have it.

305191 dog is available from any Evinrude dealer. $50.00. I didn't check on the gear.

You are also correct, putting a new dog against a worn out gear is folly.

Thanks for the great feedback. i have had a buddy who is a machinist rework the forward gear and then i flipped the dog around. i hope this works out if not i will have my buddy rework the gear again and check with a evinrude/johnson dealer for a new dog. i did not know a dog could be reworked i will also look in to that as well.

Re: 1969 20hp Clutch Dog

I had a 68 9.9 and replaced just the dog, which I ordered from a dealer, and never had a problem, maybe I am the exception to the rule.

Poke around on Ebay, I have seen lowers for as little as 50 bucks for smaller engines.
