Tachometer: # of Alt. Poles

1975-50 HP Johnson (2-Cyl.) Mod. # ESL75B

All,

I'm installing a Teleflex tach. for my 1975 50 HP Johnson.

The instructions are a bit to be desired, so I went to the Teleflex site for some info.

There it gets confusing.

The chart says:

1971-77 40-60 HP (2-cyl.) Set tach to "6P".

1971-77 50-55 HP (2-cyl.) Set tach to "5P".

So the real question is, does my 1975 50 HP have a 10 or 12 pole alternator?

My interpretation would be that it is a 10 pole?

Re: Tachometer: # of Alt. Poles

The OMC engine alternators emit six (6) pulses. The tachometers operate off of this six pulse emmision. Set the tachometer to 6P (Six Pulses).

Thanks Joe.

I'd never heard of ten pole before but the instructions made the 10 pole look compelling.

Thanks for setting me straight.:)
