Dear boating buddies, I just purchased a 2006 Johnson 115 2 cycle to replace the 33 yr. old Johnson on my Boston Whaler. The dealer's mechanic tried it out today and it ran like a top. But on the highway back to the dealership, a plywood casting platform caught the wind and flew out of the boat, knocking a good sized hole in the back of the motor cover (cowling). We discovered that a new cowling is nearly $1000. A used one will do just fine if we can find one. The engine model is J115 Pxsda and the part # is 5005010. If anyone has this item, please let me know. Thanks, bluegrass boy

They are pretty common on ebay. If it isn't for the 115, you can always change the decals from a 90 to 115. The decals are cheap from BRP. They may have some minor scuffs or scratches- but those are easy to fix (repaint/ decal)- and the cost will be dramatically less than a new cowl costs....

Might also try taking it to a fiberglass repair shop and get an estimate for a repair. Might still be more than you want to pay, but estimates are free. What a bummer though. Sounds like you have about the same luck that I do.
