So is my jumbo jar of Jiffy peanut butter safe to eat?

We laways buy the big one(crunchy) - with all this peanut butter contamination stuff, are we safe to keep eating it? Jar last us maybe a month or so????

It is the stuff that was dedicated to be added to foods and some peanut butter

Of course! I'm pretty sure that there were no jars of peanut butter sold to the public that had a problem. And if you've been eating it already, then it ain't bad.

I read about that down here in the papers a couple days ago. It appears that the company in Georgia were made to be aware of this risk prior to shipping the product, this surely beats the hell out of me.

As i recall a health official in china was executed due to the deaths of many, whether he was made a scapegoat it most probably debatable issue, but the chinese gov't surely got their point across.

Your Jiffy is perfectly safe to consume as long as you cut the crust off the moldy bread and your jelly has a white fungus growing in the jar.

Whats next, tainted candy, cannot eat beef (mad cow) fish (mercury),peanuts (salmonella), milk (bgh hormones), Hell I might as well just throw myself in the ground. Really, 99.99 % of all foods in this country are safe. We do have the safest food system in the world. I will eat anything around and Will not worry about the different bugs out there. If you knew some of the things that got into food as a normal course you would not eat ever. The news media as usual has blown things way out of proportion here again where people think anything peanuts is affected.

mphy98 the illness and disease impacts the children, the elderly and people who have poor resistance to fight these things off. I feel the same way about my safety however I worry for my grandkids.

I have to tell you that IMO the news media has been doing a decent job so far on this peanut thing....... better then other food tamperings and scares.

Look at the actions that China took with the melamine contamination .... they sentenced people to death!

The FDA is surely an antiquated and ineffective organization that is in need of some serious arse-kicking, heads ought to be rolling there but i guess that is too much to expect from a govt' bureaucratic agency.

It is a sure thing that they will still spend a Billion dollars to make sure that Peanut Butter is safe to eat again and about the time they clear is safe they will turn around and issue a Trillion Dollar Bail out to all of the Peanut Butter manufacturers to keep them from going bankrupt!

Well

I work in and FDA facility dont ask me why ? BUT they are much harder on the DRUG part than the FOOD part

Now in are case DRUG = a soap with and antipresperant active ingredient,ect


You have to realize that this company shiped product they knew was BAD and no amount of oversight will stop something like this


We test before products are packaged and AGAIN after its packaged BEFORE it leaves the building

I " think " i lost my beloved Lab to the dog food problem.

He was healthy as a horse and in 2 weeks was gone, during the hoopla, but i can't prove it.

Now i just don't know what to say, if i lost a kid to this scare. Wonder how people cope if they do lose a kid to this kinda problem.

If i were sitting on a jury, and a guy went in and took matters in his own hands, and did in the ceo of a company, that knew in advance that he was feeding kids poison, i would give him a medal and send him home.

Here if found guilty even if they do get around to trying him would take years and then it's a country club for him. Playing golf and steam rooms.

If I'm not mistaken, Jif has said that it doesn't buy peanuts from the affected facility. Smuckers is also a part of the same company, and I believe it has said that this product line is OK too.

I have a jar of Jif on my counter, next to my toaster. I've been eating it for several weeks on hot muffins, to no ill affect. I think you're OK with yours too.

BTW, anyone ever stuff dates with peanut butter and chopped walnuts, and then roll them in sugar? Those "bad boys" are really good!

I love Jif "Extra Crunchy". They had a half-page ad in the local paper yesterday stating they didn't buy any peanut product from the affected plant in Georgia. All their products are OK.
