Fast idle problem

Have a 95 20hp rude remote having problem with the fast idle. When I start first thing in the morning usually works ok later on if i use it it wont work it acts like it is in gear and the safety switch is activated and when you hit the key nothing happens put back in neutral and turns over any ideas where to start looking. thanks

motor has to be in neutral for it to start, what type control do you have. fast idle lever, or the one you pull the handle side way, and move forward for fast idle, or the one with the button you push, and move handle forward?

i the 1 with the button you push then move handle down.

are you postive the button is working. all the time. if the button does not disengage the shift, the ignition will not work. remove you cowl, and watch you cables on the engine. it also could be a sticking neutral safety switch in the controller.

I checked the cables every thing working ok so it must be in the control. How hard is it to get at. Thanks

is it a surface or flush mount?

surface mount. what is strange is that after its running it will work ok i have even tried tried putting fast idle while running and then turn key off and then try to restart and it wont work. thanks for the help
