Any of you old enough to remember Skelly gasoline "with Skeltane!". On many occassions I watched the owner of the local Skelly fuel depot climb onto a railroad car and pour a vial of "Skeltane" into a railroad car full of fuel. Must have been amazing stuff. Two ounces treats a railroad car. Visit any refinery and they will tell you they have winter and summer formulations for various areas of the country. You will also see tanker trucks with varyiing names lined up to load the very same fuel.

the only difference is the additives put in before it gets to the pump.

Re: More ethanol !

I'm pretty sure in MN we can't get ethanol free fuel at gas stations any more, it's required by law. We can at a marina, but who with a trailerable boat wants to pay $1.50 more per gallon there?

there are still a handfull of stations that have one pump with "non-Oxygenated" gas. all are labled for small engine or classic car use only. I believe the MSRA keeps a current listing of them.

Re: More ethanol !

The 1989 OEM manual for my OMC says 10% ethanol is okay. One could say for at least the past 20 years, the manufacturers were designing for this.
The only problem I've ever had is that my accelerator pump only lasts an average of four seasons.
There is more than a few ethanol posts you can search on.

Re: More ethanol !

Here in MO they decided we needed to use E10 if the price would be less or equal to the price of straight gas. That sounds okay, the consumer would never lose at the pump per gallon, but the bad thing is that we never know if we are burning gas or 10% alcohol. In fact, they eliminated the requirement that the station post the formulation of the gas. We must assume it will contain 10% ethanol or less.

I would have NO problem with this whole concept if they would just have OFF-HIGHWAY gas available, that was alcohol free. I wouldn't care if it was just a bit more expensive. But I dont' want to use alcohol in my small engines or marine engines. I would be happy to pay a slight premium for it.

We went through the same thing with unleaded gas back in the 70's.
What they should sell is off-road fuel w/o the road taxes like diesel.
In season, I burn more in my boats than in my truck & other land based gas motors.
