Have I stumped the Yamaha experts?

Ok, maybe its a cheap trick to try to generate some interest, and let me also say that since undertaking a pretty complete restoration of my 16.5" Sea Nymph I have learned a wealth of information from reading threads here.

So, now for the question. I have posted several times regarding wiring of oil warning lights on my analog tach, with no success. There are four leads from these lights; a red w/blue, a yellow w/red, green w/red, and a common black. I ordered the trim/oil wiring harness, which plugged right into the two plugs on the motor (a 2003 50 TRLB). The wire colors match those on the trim gauge, but the colors do not match the light leads.

Can anyone offer any help, or am I just going to have to take it to the dealer?

Well, it would help if you showed a bit more respect for the helpers here.

Have you a Factory Service Manual?

I'm not trying to be a smart *****, but have you tried a search?

I know rodbolt has covered the test for the oil warning system for yamaha's several times and it should put you in the right direction. It looked like a lot of typing for him and i'm sure he gets tired of repetitively typing the same long winded answer.

I do hope you get it figured out.

Re: Have I stumped the Yamaha experts?

only one here stumped is you I reckon.
I will go through it once more though.
yellow is key on power not used on all applications.
I have no clue as to which tach part number you have so I cant help more there.
if you post a picture it would help
if you have the correct tach and harness its all plug and play anyway.
if you have a non yamaha tach look in the tach instructions.
on the engine side green/red is a ground path set by the oil control switch for low tank level.
green is the ground path for tank level ok
some yamaha analog tachs will require an addapter to work correctly with a 2 stroke.
so with the correct YAMAHA brand parts and setting the switch settings correctly its all simply plug and play.
after that pictures may help
some tachs have only oil lamps others show oil and overtemp visuals.

now can I ask you a question?
how high is up ?

Wow, I didn't think I was being disrespectful, so let me say right away, if I came off that way it was unintended and I apologize. I didn't mean to be a smart***.

I really do mean you guys here are the experts as far as I'm concerned, and I have learned a lot by reading threads here. I posted this question a week ago and got no response, so I was just trying to generate a little bit of interest by throwing out a little bit of a challenge. I thought it would be taken in that spirit.

I'm frustrated by this issue, and I ordered the wiring harness my dealer said I needed, but it is definately not "plug and play". The plugs, and colors are similar, but not matching.

Re: Have I stumped the Yamaha experts?

I re-read my post because I was surprised by the negative responses. I guess my frustration is just leaking through, but no disrespect was intended.
I have all Yamaha parts. I also have a copy of the page from the rigging guide that the dealer gave me, but the wire colors coming from the tach do not match what the rigging guide describes for the oil lights. (The tach itself works fine).
I will pull the tach out tomorrow to check the part number, but the leads are as I described.
The tach itself was new with the 2003 motor-could it be that the trim oil wiring harness has changed since that year? Or was I sold an out of date, older one?

thats all we ask.
did Yamaha place my pic on their web site? yes.
does it mean I am better or less than any other? no.
all I ask is post all avalibvle information so that we posters can at least try to make an edjucated guess.
remember your looking at your motor, we are looking at a monitor.

Re: Have I stumped the Yamaha experts?

I have pulled the tach out of the boat, and I also have the original paperwork, but I cannot find a part # for tach. I know the trim/oil harness is part # 68F-82553-50-00. I am posting a picture of the tach showing the wiring for the oil warning lights. Hope this helps.

Re: Have I stumped the Yamaha experts?

the tach harness from the engine to the tach should work, the tach should have the correct 4 pin connector already on it.
according to my rigging guide the 03 50 requires a driver relay part#6y5-81950-02 for operation using a 6y5-83540--05 analog tach.
for the 6y7 series tach no driver.
can you finnish pulling the tach and post a picture of the tach face and the rear of the tach so we can try to ID the tach?
also a picture of the 4 pin oil warning connector on both the wire harness and the tach harness.

Re: Have I stumped the Yamaha experts?

I have posted pictures of the front and rear of the tach. The plug on the tach for the oil lights was cut off (I bought the motor off a boat headed for the salvage yard). I do have it, just can't put my fingers on it now.
If an additional relay was needed, that would make sense out of this. The one thing that has seemed strange to me is that the four pin plugs are similar, but do not mate. They do on the motor end, but not the gauge end. Hopefully, these pix will help determine if this is the case.

Re: Have I stumped the Yamaha experts?

save the original tach connector you will need it.
you have a pro series tach which requires the above mentioned adapter for the oil warning lamps to operate correctly.
see I aint stumped, just needed to see it.

Re: Have I stumped the Yamaha experts?

Thanks for the reply. I had no doubt that someone here would be able to help. Guess that's why I got a little "antsy". Patience has never been my strong point.
Thanks again.
