How come you guys seem to be so slow on the uptake of RIBs? They are everywhere over here and seem to be built far better too.

Re: How come?

Europe has never had a fiberglass manufacturing environment like we have in the states. So, fiberglass boats were cheap, manufacturers were plentiful and there was/is/will be a bias against inflatables here due to their being perceived as "cheap". Virtually all inflatables here are sold as dinghies rather than as main boat. I wish people would wake up and see the benefits, but I doubt that we will ever see a Euro outlook on inflatables.

Oh, I want one . . . Actually love 'em. Just answering the question from my (the bosses) perspective

I think the Guru has a good point too. The Mrs. and I were walking in a lake marina recently and I pointed out a 24+ ft. rib with twins and said "that's one of the nicest boats here". She didn't understand how it could be or why I would like it. I pointed it out because I knew it wouldn't make sense to her . . .

Re: How come?

i ran a 22 hurricane a 21 aluminum hurricane 31 aquascan and all of them had problems if anything theyr EXPENSIVE the 22 allways leaked in the back pontoons and spent 6k to have it fixed by professionls before spending 10k to have the compleat tube replaced the 21 allways leaked the 31 tripple engine aquascan's tubes constantly sat in the water making the material streach and break and the hull use to flex about 5 feet forward of the engines
the main thing is if you are going to buy one plan on the tube not being mantence free i would estimate 5 years problem free
another thing pvc is difficult to repair due to how they are heat welded as apose to glued tgeather so go hypolan

There's not that many boats here without Hypalon tubes anymore for just that reason.
Mine are double- skinned and armoured too.At 15 years old they still look almost new, still hold air like new and no patches, even though the boat is ex military.

Re: How come?

Because we are cheap and there aren't all those used ribs for sale like I see people buying on Ribnet. It's also ridiculously difficult to get parts and gear for military surplus here. Though I might find a panga abandoned by smugglers running illegals in from Mexico...

Re: How come?

the 22 zodiac was a 1991 tube it was replaced in 2004 with a pvc blader system (pvc skin with toughf rubber bladers) and today its allmoast toataled (except for the bladders) the cold weather of new england effects pvc in a negative way

mind you theise boats are being USED they are work boats so they are in the water all winter slam against hard objects and ran hard in heavy seas overall weve seen the hypalon hold up much longer than pvc
