I'm getting ready to rebuild the 6 carbs on my evinrude 200 hp 89 model. There are 2 throttle plates. Each plate holds 3 carbs each. Do you take the throttle plates off to rebuild the carbs or just take each carb off individually. I do have a manual but it is not clear on this point.
Thanks for any advice.

I'm really not sure what you're asking, but it seems to me that you need to take everything apart to clean thoroughly.

My tip, do them one at a time and keep the jets with the cover screws so they don't get mixxed up.

Number the carbs before you remove them so the go back where they came from, possibly take a couple pics before diassembly, the linckage looks pretty simple but can get confusing.

Work on clean paper, not a rag or towel as they can get lint in the carb.

Clean the passages between the idle and mid jet and mid jet to bowl with a stranded copper wire and compressed air, the air in a can works well if you don't have a compressor.

Good luck

Good advice not to pull them all at the same time, it gets confusing.

I didn't pull the intake manifold, just the plastic carbs themselves.
First carb took 45 minutes, the 6th one took 15 minutes.

Be carefull with the tiny hairspring that couples the float to the valve. Parts are easy to lose.

Thank you everyone for the good advice. What I was actually confused about was if you should pull all 3 carbs off as an assembly along with the throttle plate or leave the throttle plate in place and remove each carb from it.
Thanks guys, this is a great forum

There are passages in the throttle plates that should be cleaned. Just to be clear, you actually have 4 throttle plates. 2 with 2 barrels & 2 butterflies and 2 with a single barrel & butterfly. There's a connector below the middle throttle body that connects to the lower one on each side.
