Re: rust on bumper

Someone once told me to rub it with Vasoline on a rag and it's suppose to remove it, then I would use a little grease, apply it to the underside of the holes in the bumper. If I removed all the rust on my truck I'd be left with a frame haha

its under a plastice part of the bumper.. you cant see it unless you look into the holes. i just dont want the rust spreading if it does that

I'm assuming it's a chrome bumper and you want to preserve that appearance as much as possible so:
First, wash all oil, dirt and crap off both sides of the mount hole(s).
Second, take some rubbing compound (found in with car waxes, etc) and with it remove all traces of rust that are/were starting. Make sure you clean out the thru hole from rust traces as well, to start bare metal is best in the hole itself.
Third, mask the area around the hole starting at about...a 2inch square section. Ideally, do not set the inner line of the masking tape flat but leave the inner edges of the tape up slightly so you will blend the spray line into the bumper area in/under it somewhat.
Fourth, use an automotive clear coat product and spray and seal the area and particulary the hole from both sides...let fully dry.
Fifth, on the inside of the bumper (where it doesn't show) I would recoat this with either clear coat or a very good blended rust primer.
Now, that won't win you any show medals but it will look good and reasonable and keep the rust away at least for a couple of years without spending a lot of money, time or effort.
If you want it done right, remove the bumper...have it stripped and rechromed or look for a nice (non-drilled) replacement bumper from a wrecker.:)
My two bits & good luck with it!!;)
