I have a 2300 ranger bay with a f225 and when i get underway, the right side of boat likes to come up. I do have trim tab on the boat and i always have to have the left tab down to keep the right side from coming up. i have made sure that the right trim tab is all the way up, does any one know what could be the cause of this. some one said that it may be the torque of the motor ?

Yup, sounds like plenty of torque to me. Have you tried eating lots of donuts and junk food to put on some real weight? LOL! :D

does it have a hydrofoil on the motor also. is so get it off. also play with your trim n tilt when taking off. too far down will bury the bow, to far out the bow is too high.

You have whats is called a trim tab on the bottom.

It should be right behind the prop looking at the back of the boat towards the front.

Lossen the nut and move it 2 degrees left port side.

That don't fix it move it again.

This is assuming you don't have water trapped in the hull port side. Or all your equipment on the port side.

CHIEF!! the trim tab of the foot of the motor, corrects torque steer, not the tilting of the hull.

Well, that's better than having the wrong side of the boat come up!

I doubt if moving the torque tab on the motor will help, I think it's more for keeping the track straight with the motor centered. If you do move it, make sure you know where to put it back if it doesn't help.

Sounds more like weight distribution to me...and that's precisely why I put trim tabs on my boat, so I could level the ride without shifting weight around.

Heres a link to the boat he has. That is alot of power for such a light boat.

The right side starboard is jumping up thats classic torque.

My brother has a 260 on a pro bass cobia boat. and that one jumps also.

I know he didn't mention that it wants to pull left.

Does it want to pull left when it jumps Ranger??

Classic prop torque. I totally agree with TD; this is NOT steering torque, leave the vertical trim tab alone for now. We have got to be clear about the difference. One is about the propeller turning one way causing the hull to twist the other. Helm adjustable tabs are a good way to solve it as well as prop changes and playing with trim/tilt as TD suggested.

The other is steering torque which is the wash of the prop across the OB skeg, and it is why there is a verticval tab just above the prop attached to the ventialtion plate. Although related, they are entirely different issues as far as solutions . . .

Re: Right side of boat comes up

Welcome to iboats!!

That is pure prop torque coming out of the hole! Here is a short youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5s28dLQtYA&NR=1 of two boats (outboards) drag racing and watch them come out and tip from torque.

The only solution is to get used to all the power and wipe that big grin off your face :D

With that much power on a fishing rig I would suggest (strongly suggest) that you get a set of steering wheel mounted trim controls http://www.iboats.com/Steering_Trim...22536869--**********.005520880--view_id.40122 This allows you to keep your hands on the wheel and trim. When I fished the BASS circuit I also used a hot foot throttle for foot control too. Believe me it helps when running WOT in some chop.

That is prop torque, and it can be compensated for by triming out the drive. There is an article on just this in the March issue of Boating Magazine on page 10.
