The Power Tilt & trim on my 1991 Johnson 90hp suddenly got stuck in the up position. When I use the Trim switch I can hear the motor run in either up or down position, but no tilt movement. So I assumed the problem is not electrical but within the PTT unit itself. I tried added Dextron II hydrolic fluid as my service manual called for, but it was allready full. Then I tried to manually lower the motor by opening the manual release valve screw a couple turns counter clockwise and nothing happened. I tighted the manual release valve screw & tried the Trim switch, again I can hear the motor run in either up or down position, but no tilt movement. Any recomendations appreciated???

Sounds like something inside the trim piston went on you. You should however be able to manually bring the leg down by turning the manual release screw about half turn counter clockwise. You will have to put considerable amount of downward pressure on the leg in order for it to lower. If it doesn't, I would thing that something went inside your piston which froze it in that position. Go on the forum under Johnson Evinrude there is someone on there today with a trim problem and one of the regulars gave info on trouble shooting the trim as well as some schematics for the trim system. Hope this helps.
