What kind options/amenities would you find in a newer boat that you wouldn't find in something like 10 years ago would you say is a big deciding factor for upgrading and/or moving up?
Most boats today have a snap out carpeting and minimal wood construction. Those are probably the biggest innovations in smaller boats under say 22 feet. Both are designed to lengthen the useful life of the boat. You can add just about any new option to an old boat though so it really depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. There have also been some improvements in hull design with hulls getting wider but for the most part the industry has not had any huge changes in technology in the last 10 years.
portable heads are more prevalent, and a must with a family. i do not like unnecessary guages, bling. good simple boat. BLING cost extra, and is the first to cause problems. i hate carpet. my snap in carpet has never been installed. 10 year old boat.

Not an amenity, but a BIG factor IMO.
As superpop mentioned, a lot of newer boats are manufactured without any wood in their construction. 10 years ago that was unheard of. Boats made without any wood won't have any future rot problems (stringers, transom, deck).
A cup holder.
My kingdom for a cup holder.
Nothing I have has a cup holder.
Not the boats, not the tractors, nothing.
The cup holder in the P/U is useless. Bottles fall out on a turn. Coffee jumps up and runs down the dash into the radio.
The wife's Cavalier has 1/2 dozen cup holders that work.
Life's just not fair sometimes.
oops....sorry to get on a rant and whine.
