I guess it all depends how much you like to do gel coat work.

Fenders!! Ya gotta protect your boat from stone chips and dings that the tires will absolutely kick up. Not to mention if you trailer in the rain then you've got all that road wash sandblasting the hull. Cough up the coin for a replacement pair of fenders...;)

Re: Fenders or No Fenders

My trailer has thick steel fenders that I use more for a step to get into the boat when it is on the trailer than anyhting else but they do keep crap off the boat, which is more important now that I just painted it.

I would put them on unless it is a super hassle or you don't care what your boat looks like.

Mud flaps don't hurt, either.

Re: Fenders or No Fenders

Besides the functional need for fenders expressed in previous thread, fenders make it look like the trailer is complete.

I might be wrong but it maybe also state laws to have fenders. Thought I read that somewhere.

Re: Fenders or No Fenders

Trailers in most states usually require either fenders or mudflaps of some sort unless the body or cargo cover the wheels.
Your gel coat won't last long without fenders and you may be open a liability claim if a stone from your tires strikes another vehicle.

I'd definitly put fenders on and when I bought my new boat before I pulled it out of the lot I purchaced a "toetector" which just mounts around the reciever hitch and is a brush looking thing that spans the whole back of the towing vehicle and is only a couple inches from the ground to keep any rocks from getting to the fiberglass. But of course I'm very picky about my stuff too...really like to keep things looking new:)

I do not think you want an angry motorist following you to the ramp and demanding your insurance info.

So far I haven't heard an upside on not having fenders.
