The most important areas are the bearing surfaces,
ie; rod ends and top/bottom end bearings.

i always thought it needs to be cleaned in some acid solution?

1200 wet & dry sand paper with oil?
I used this before on cranks from cars before.
You fold it into a strip and polish just like a spit shine.

No ... fine valve grinding compound, with the flywheel rocked gently back and forth until good contact shown by Prussian blue.
