Hi guy's.
I have a 1964 40 hp johnson RDS26S
I am looking for a fuel pump.
My parts cat shows OMC.0388685
Nearest new replacment pump i can find is Seirra 18-7352.
Supplier can not be sure as his numbers do not include OMC,0388685 as his year's only go back to 1976.
If i buy pump from him it is 44.00 usd and if i get it from iboat site it is 71.00
but first if any one knows if it is a good replacement i would appreciate it
thank-you:confused:

Re: 1964 40 hp fuel pump

Isn't the original pump for your motor 380016, superceded by 388685? I don't know what exactly a 388685 is, but a 380016 has one 5/16" inlet and one 3/16" outlet on the side. A 18-7351 has the same size fittings, but they are on the bottom. 18-7352 has two 5/16" fittings, on the bottom. Sierra does not list a direct replacement for 388685.

So.o.o.o., the answer to all this is go by the size of the fittings, and make sure coming out the bottom isn't a problem. They are the same inside, so if it fits, go with it.

I have an unproven suspicion that 388685 is the little square pump. Seems like quite a task for that to supply enough fuel for a 40 (?).

Hi.
Yes FR you are right on the part # 0388685 being the small square pump,as i gave you wrong part # from OMC .

I rechecked Pump part # in catalog and it is 379297 does that help?
This # number is right out of the part cat for 1964 40 hp Johnson
