Hey Guys...I just put new rings and pistons in a 1995 Johnson 9.9. I checked the compression and it is still low...Should I attempt to start and hopefully seat the rings and increase the compression and what should I do before I start her up. ( are there any special things I should do for first run)

Thanks,

Newfie Bob

Shot some oil in the cylinder and then rol the motor around so you can coat the walls of the cylinder. then check compression. Dry rings will give low compression.

Re: engine statrup

Don't worry about the compression until you have run her a while. Even then 60psi is not too far out of line for a rope start engine.

Use a 24:1 mix for the first tank of gas, then go back to the 50:1.

Good luck. :)

Re: engine statrup

I was really surprised at how easy it was once I got at it to tear down the :)motor and rebuild it...The parts were a bit costly but I got it done. I'll be firing her up on Monday and really can't wait. Hopefully she'll be taking me salmon fishing again this summer. I'll keep you informed.

Once again thanks all for the help!!!!:)
