Another Evinrude waterpump question

So, I finally got the new water pump installed on my 1984 Evinrude 140 thanks to the help from this board. I cranked her up and water pressure at the engine was great. I was getting a nice strong pee stream. I let the engine idol for 10 or 15 minutes and the heads got warm and I could keep my fingers on them for 6 or 7 seconds. So, all seemed fine. I had the motor in a horse water trough of mine that was just the right size. I filled it where all the intakes were submerged. Then I noticed a spray of water coming out of the seam at the front of the motor where the gearbox meets up with the lower part of the engine. It was spraying pretty good. Did I screw something up or is this normal. I think that part of the motor is usually underwater. I havent had this boat on the lake yet so it is hard to tell. Any help is once again greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
James

normal after the water pump change, the factory puts sealer between the joint, but is not necessary.

Great! ...as I breathe a sigh of relief. I was not looking forward to reconnecting that shift linkage again...

Thanks!

When running in a trough, tub, garbage can, or other, you need to fill water higher than the level of the pump...not just the intake screen. This will ensure that the pump is getting enough water.
