Hi all,

New to forum so please don't assume anything! :) I just recently purchased the above referenced boat and am now trying to learn as much as I can about the boat and how to repair it. You can imagine my enthusiasm when I found this forum!

I have a soft spot in the floor of the boat. (please see attached pictures) I pulled up as much of the plywood flooring that looked like it was coming apart. Now wondering if I should continue down through the foam to get a look at the stringers. If I only have rot in one spot is it safe to assume that the rot is contained to that one area?

Also, the previous owner said he ran the boat last summer and winterized it. Couldn't get the motor to run while I was there...said it probably was bad gas. If I remove the old gas and it still doesn't want to start would I change out the fuel filter next...

Lastly, if there is any good reading material or "how to" websites that you can suggest I would be greatly appreciated if you sent along.

Thank you.

What have you done to that poor Sea Ray!:rolleyes::D:p
Just kidding. Welcome aboard. May as well check the stringers at this point.
There are four or five of us here that I know of that have older 19-20' SeaRays. One fella has a pictorial history going on stretching his a few feet. Needles to say, he's quite intimate with the structural facets. There's a ton of knowledge here covering any facet of trouble you will run into.
What model is she.
Mine is a '69 SRV190. I have also (briefly) had a '73 SRV207.

hi....welcome to i boats !

If I remove the old gas and it still doesn't want to start would I change out the fuel filter next...

the motor forum here is the best there is.....the mechanics on this forum are known around the world.

if there is any good reading material or "how to" websites that you can suggest I would be greatly appreciated if you sent along.

Thank you.

this forum is the absolute best "how to" that is avalable.....read the compleated projects forum....also ....the hull extension thread is very detailed with all kinds of help....and the boat is a searay.
but if you feel you must...there is a book called runabout renovation by jim anderson that will outline the project...but is really short on detailes

we can walk you right thru this....no sweat.....

rip the carpet up....take a circ saw and set it to the depth of the deck wood....and starrrrt cuttin !

once the deck is up in an area or two....we can help you with how to take a core sample of the transom wood and the stringers....that will determine how far you will have to go with it.

post back with more pics.....and you will get all the help you will ever need.

cheers

Thank you all for the quick replies back! Once I have more of the floor up (particularly the foam up) I will post back with some more pictures. I don't think I would ever feel comfortable not knowing if the stringers/transom were in good shape.

Thanks again!

Read this thread, it tells what you need to do to get your S/R back on the water fast, don't skip any of the steps, they need to be followed closely, shouldn't take more than a week or two.

It's gonna take him a week or two just to read the thread :)

BTW, I see oops! posted above. Good to see ya back. Haven't seen you for a bit.

Re: Help with 1979 19' Sea Ray

Back again...I understand from doing some poking around in the forums that the long box in the floor isn't a livewell but a place to put water skis. :) The top was rotted so it's now in the trash(any suggestions on replacement material?) but I also notice that there was a hole in the bottom. Is this to drain water? What is water doesn't drain out of the box? Is the water suppose to drain to the back of the boat? Is it as easy as running an electrical fish tape thru it to ream out the gunk?

Thank you again for the help!

You can use mahogany, teak - I've used red oak (sealed) too whifch of course is cheaper.

Yes, that is a drain hole. You can run a fish tape through it. You could probably just hold the garden hose to it.
