Mercruiser 165 exhaust flapper

I have installed a new Flapper in my exhaust pipe , can some look at it and tell me if it is installed the right way, Thx Hope I uploaded the pic okay.

165.... 4 cylinder or 6?

Well done, Looks just like mine when i did it! My only question would be that, I dont know if the teflon on those nuts will handle the exhaust heat? It may melt it and nuts come loose. I rivited mine like the factory did. Although i guess if the rubber can handle the heat i suppose the tflon nuts can. If i used nuts i may have double nutted regular nuts maybe. But yes it's in right.

Thx for the input guys, it is from a 6 cylinder 165, I am doing a rebuild on the engine. This was a fresh water part that I blasted and painted. Good point on the lock nuts but I think they will be alright I also used lock tight. But I will have to think about it before I install it. I could not find any stainless pop rivets.

Exhaust/water mix hardly gets above 200 degrees. Mine i can stick my hand in the flow comfortably.

Where did you buy that flapper from?

I need one that looks just like it.

Boat is a Checkmate with thru-transom exhaust and one of them is burned up.

The pipes are 3" and the inside diameter is about 2 1/2".

I got mine from the local Mercury dealer, they are not expensive, the nuts and bolts from Home depot
