Hi guys,

What is the story with these paper exhaust riser gaskets? Are they alright to use? When I took my risers off my manifolds, there seemed to be a heavy duty graphite gasket. The new gaskets are paper (Osco) are these alright to use? Seems like the graphite would be a better bet, thanks for the insight.

Engine? Manufacturer? Are you talking about OEM gaskets or aftermarket?

Need more input.....

2000 Volvo Penta 5.7L.

So, do not use the green osco gaskets then? What should I use?

Genuine Volvo parts... People think they are saving money by buying cheaper (inferior) parts. Any money saved is soon used up (and then some) in the cost of repairing the damage caused by the failure of a 'cheap' part. That makes the 'cheap' part expensive and the genuine manufacturer's parts a very good investment.

Why save $2 a quart on oil that is going to cost you $5000 in a rebuild in a years' time?

Just my opinion.

Yes- use the Osco manifold and riser but throw out the green paper gasket and buy an OEM gasket. Much better material.
