Re: Boater's World Bankruptcy

Also, would anyone know of any decent Boat store in that same general area?? (Sarasota, Bradenton, Palmetto, etc...)

Thanks,

Rick

I thought you guys in Florida had a boating store on every corner with all that water you have. ;);)

Here in the desert I had never heard of Boating World.

I hate to see chain companies like this going out of business. It is a glaring example of the condition of our economy. My business is off enough without being reminded by all the "Going Out of Business Sales".

Their Blow Out sale so far is a joke as far as I can see. I've been there twice and haven't seen any discounts that I consider Blow Out. 10 to 20% isn't going to get it in my book. I didn't see any discount on electronics. I hear that they could be selling off for three to four more months. I'll wait until they really start discounting their stuff even if it means shopping the "picked over" goods. Example: 3 position PVC rod holders, discount=none, price= $17.99, sells at Wally World for $14.99.

I'm remotely involved in the bankruptcy. They are closing all stores and selling everything. You can expect the liquidators to keep priced high for a while liek they did at circuit city.
Keep in mind they sell the fixtures so you might find an equipment rack or display you can use for your stuff at home, your boat club, etc.

like i said, try takin it to the register and see what they scan at. my trailer lights were supposed to be 79.99 plus 10% off, but rang up as $48.99...maybe stuff rings up cheaper than what the shelves say, i dont know. i would go back if it wasnt so dang far across town from me.

Boater's World closing.

Well that kinda sucks. I found that they were overpriced, but if I needed something, and I wasn't sure EXACTLY the thing I needed (weird-sized stainless fitting or whatever), It was good to actually see the exact thing that might work for me.

Maybe I'll stock up on auto-bilge pumps. My local BW has a stupid huge inventory of wakeboards, maybe that too.

I feel a bit like a vulture. (Is there a sea-going analogy for a vulture? Seagull is probably closest, but doesn't have quite the same ring)

They did have a great fat catalog though. Nice for winter daydreaming.

Finally gonna do it. I need a quart of bottom paint so I figure I'd wander into the local BW this morning to see what's going on...will report back.

Heard about BW closing on this forum first and went to their local store yesterday. Yup, big signs proclaiming GOING OUT OF BUSINESS 20-50% OFF. Watch the prices. If you're up on what you're looking for, you can find a bargain. Otherwise, be careful.

Have them price check any larger items. Sometimes the "sale" price is marked on the shelf but most of the time, it's not. Though, sometimes the sale price is a discounted retail price instead of the BW price.

Re: Boater's World Bankruptcy

You have to be careful. I have hit the local BW here lately, and today grabbed a bunch of ancor heat shrink connectors and other small stuff.
Other things are marked up ridiculously. I see the liquidator prints up BW stickers and tags too

The local one is getting a semi full of inventory Thursday, so we'll see if any truly spectacular deals show up.

Our local BW store is shuttered and all merchandise gone from the store. Next door Joe's is also on the way out, but as all have said here, no real deals. I was in there the other days and I could have bought for the same price before they started selling off.

Went to the local(White Marsh) store, not much left. I picked up some more electrical stuff and odds and ends. They had a couple GPS and Chartplotters still. A Raymarine A70 was a grand.

Stopped by the BW in Solomon's the other day. Everything in the store was40% off. Most of the fishing stuff was gone. Selling TLD 15 for $65 each. Picked up several Racor filters for $18 each.

Oh yeah, the White Marsh store still had a decent amount of fishing gear left, a ton of seating, and bulk wire and line.

It's weird, all the regular people who worked there seem to be gone, and some old salts wearing some Hawaiian style Boater's World shirts were there. They were friendly and one guy I was joking with. I think they are from the liquidator.

Gone.

My wife and I just bought a TON of clothing hangers and some fixtures from our local one, and were informed tonight was the last night. The girl we've been dealing with has been there 13 years, and was sad. I guess they were still the original employees.

They still had a bunch of VHF antennas for $20 or so. Some real cheap good transducers too.
