pulling to the right

my boat pulls to the right. There is no weight in the boat when I test it so its not improper weight distribution. Its a 14' 48" across jon boat...it has a 25hp tiller steer motor.

Could the only thing be where the motor is position on the back of the boat?

If its pulling to the right, would I just need to move it to the right an inch or two?

thanks

Re: pulling to the right

That is caused by prop torque. Is that thing pretty swift?

so its comon to pull to the right just a bit? Nothing I can do to fix it...its not bad, but after a while it can make my arm a little tired.

yea, its damn fast. I havent clocked it but I bet its close to pushing mid to upper 30's.

Adjust the trim tab to counter act the torque. It is the small tab near the prop. Use small increments until it no longer pulls.

25 does not have adjustable trim tab. you can tighten the swivel tension some. my 15 use to wear my arm out, on long runs.

this on is a 1988 and it doesnt have any adjustments for the trim. Would the whale tail fins be a cure to this problem?
I am not a big fan of the look of them, but if the boat would plane better and handle better, I will get one.

Re: pulling to the right

no, what you are dealing with is torque steer. rotation of the motor, want so force the motor to turn. very common, even worse i bigger motors, the reason for the adjustable tab on them.

Re: pulling to the right

tighten the tension on the transom swivel. it will be a little hard to turn, but the motor will be easier to keep straight.
