Allright Guys,
Good evening to you and on a good note, Friday, is tomorrow and the weekend is going to be here, YIPPPPEEEE!!!!! Anyway, I own a new to me since last year, a 1983, 70 horsepower model# J70ELCTE outboard that is mounted on a 20' Pontoon Boat and want to change out the water pump impeller and maybe the complete water pump assembly depending on what condition the water pump housing is in? I have never tore into this new to me since last year outboard and it runs GREAT at that but I want to make sure that it remains running that way. So far I have rebuilt all three carbs, changed out the lower gear lube at least twice last year, and ran Sea Foam threw the motor. Anyway, how hard is it to change out the water pump on this particular outbaord. I did a water pump change on a 1989 Evinrude 88 SPL V-4 outboard about 3 years ago and it didn't seem to bad. Just curious that is all and is there any trick to taking the shift shaft rod apart from below the Carbs? Do I have to remove the bottom carb to get to it. I remember that on the 88 SPL V-4 outbaord I did the water pump on that all I had to do is remove the diaper pin and push the shift linkage to port I believe and WALLA the shift shaft disconnected from the shift rod. But the new to me 70 horsepower Johnson outboard looks a little different to me. Do I remove both screws or both, not sure? Sorry, to be so darn long winded here but I wanted to give you as much detail as I could here for you to provide me a good answer. Thanks, you guys are great here, Bob
